After you’ve been trying to get pregnant for one year, two years, three years, or more, you’ll probably start thinking about other options, other than conceiving and giving birth to your own child. (You probably also have a lot less money in your pocket than when you began trying a number of years ago, due to the very limited amount of coverage health insurance agencies provide you with to aid in conception)

At this point, you’ve probably exhausted all of your options for birthing your own child. If not, before turning to adoption or surrogacy, make sure you’ve done the following:
• Gotten tested yourself—hormone levels, ovulation, etc.
• Tried oral fertility drugs like Clomid.
• Tried hormone injections, if necessary.
• Gotten your husband’s sperm checked.
• In-vitro fertilization
If these methods of getting pregnant have not worked, then it’s time to begin considering these other options.
Surrogacy – Your doctor should know whether this could work for you. If there is nothing wrong with your eggs and nothing wrong his sperm, then the problem is likely that your body is simply not capable of conceiving or maintaining a pregnancy. If that’s the case, then you can turn to a surrogate who uses her body to carry your embryo. You’d be hard pressed to find someone to volunteer doing this for you, so expect to spend loads of money. When the baby is born, he or she will be the complete biological product of you and your husband.
Adoption – If you’re not a candidate for surrogacy, or you’re just uncomfortable with having someone else carry your baby, then adoption would be ideal for you. There are so many babies in the world who are in need of loving parents, and if you fit that bill, then you will be doing some lucky child in the world the greatest kindness. You’ll also get your baby.
We wish you the best of luck!

Many women worry that when something’s not right down there, it’ll affect their chances of getting pregnant. And it’s a valid concern: Our reproductive systems can be rather vulnerable, so it’s important that to ensure reproductive health, you keep a check on your vaginal health, as well.

If just so happens that women do not need to worry about their fertility when it comes to yeast infections, but what they do need to be sure of, is that it indeed is a yeast infection and not chlamydia, gonorrhea, or bacterial vaginosis which can affect your fertility by making it more difficult for the sperm to reach your egg. If you don’t have experience with yeast infections, you may want to visit a doctor to get a diagnosis before treatment. Otherwise, if you keep on hand an antifungal vaginal cream or if you buy Diflucan online to have when a yeast infection strikes, then you’ll likely rid of the infection within one to seven days.

You may biologically have no trouble getting pregnant while you have a yeast infection, but it may cause you physical discomfort to have sex. It’s usually not a big deal to pass on intercourse for a few days while treatment is at work, but if you’re trying for a baby and are ovulating while you have a yeast infection, you may end up in a very frustrating situation.

The best thing you can do in this case is to wait until your yeast infection is treated and you can have sex comfortably.again. You’ll have much more fun baby-making if you’re not itchy, red, and burning around your vagina. If you simply can’t wait, then if you can handle the discomfort, then there’s no reason why you can’t go ahead and try. A yeast infection is contagious, but most men are mostly immune and unless you know your partner has a history of candida infections, then it probably won’t bother him.

While it’s true that you can get pregnant any day of your menstrual cycle, there are certain days that are much more likely than others. If you are trying to conceive, it’s important that you pay close attention to your menstrual cycle so you can make love at the optimal time.

You’re most likely to conceive anywhere from about five days before ovulation until the day that you ovulate. Again, ovulation can happen anytime, but for most women, this occurs on the fourteenth day of a normal 28-day cycle, that is 14 days after the first day of your period. That means that your most fertile period are days 9-14 of your cycle.

So how do you know when you’re ovulating? The best thing to do is to chart your basal body temperature (BBT) when you first wake up, at the same time every day, before you do anything else. You use a special basal thermometer, which shows very, very slight temperature changes. Chart your levels to learn the best time to try for a baby.

Before ovulation, your BBT is about 97.2-97.7 degrees. For a few days after you ovulate until you get your next period, that number will rise about 0.5 and 1.6 degrees. If you do this for a few months, you’ll start to see a pattern and you’ll find when you BBT drops and then the exact day that your BBT jumps back up. During that time, you are most fertile.

Another good way to chart your fertility is to check out your cervical mucus. Using a finger, check the discharge that comes out of your cervix. You’re looking for fertile-quality cervical fluid or discharge. On your fertile days, the discharge will be clear and slippery, not like during the rest of the month when it’s more sticky. When you notice the switch between slippery and sticky, that is probably the day after you’ve ovulated. If you pay attention to your cervical fluid for a few months, you’ll get to know your body’s signals better and you’ll have a better idea of when you’re likely to conceive.

Other symptoms that some women experience with ovulation include menstrual-like cramps and light spotting.

FALSE-It’s highly unlikely that you will, but it is completely possible! If you plan on having sex and don’t want to get pregnant, use protection EVERY time you make love!
•	If you want to get pregnant, you should lie on your back during sex (missionary style) and remain on your back after intercourse is over. FALSE-Couples can conceive from any sexual position and you do not need to stay on your back when you’re done. There are millions of sperm during a single ejaculation, some will stay up there even if you get up quickly.
•	You can’t get pregnant the first time you have sex. FALSE-and not only false, but the younger you are the most fertile you are and the MORE likely you are to get pregnant, whether it’s your first, tenth, or millionth time.
•	Pulling out is a valid form of birth control-FALSE-Not only can STDs pass from one partner to another pre-ejaculation, but a woman can get pregnant if even the smallest amount of pre-cum goes into her vagina.
•	If you’re using birth control, you won’t get pregnant. FALSE-Oral contraceptives are only 99% effective and condoms and other barrier forms of birth control are even less than that. If you’re going to have sex, you need to accept that there’s a chance, even if it’s ever so slight, that you may conceive. Even the morning after pill is not 100% effective.
•	Everybody ovulates at the same time so it’s easy to know when you’re fertile. FALSE-everybody’s bodies work at different paces, and while a 28-day cycle with ovulation on day 14 is standard, the actual range of “normal” spans a few weeks long. Unless you’ve taken specific tests that indicated if and when you ovulated, all other methods of guessing may not be foolproof.

The days of birth control being only a woman’s responsibility may be coming to an end! For the first time, scientists have developed what may be a safe and effective contraceptive solution that is administered to the male, instead of the female. Several types of male contraceptives may be hitting the market soon. Here’s everything you need to know to discover if male birth control is for you.

Men will soon have a daily contraceptive pill option, similar to women’s birth control pill sin that they will have to be taken on a regular schedule. Options like a gel or a patch to be applied to the skin are being explored as well, as are monthly or quarterly injections. One possible future for male contraception involves an implant placed under the skin and replaced on a yearly basis. All these options represent the first time a reversible, non-intrusive male contraceptive option has ever been available. All male birth control options until now have always been irreversible and involving surgery.

Most male birth control that is currently being developed involves testosterone being released in the body, lowering sperm count. It is not supposed to alter sexual ability or performance, and anticipated side effects are projected to be minor.

Many men, however, are resistant to the idea, being used to it being something of a women’s business for so long. Some men are scared of the idea of altering their sperm count, fearing results could be permanent. Researchers allayed these fear, claiming that similar concerns had been voiced in the 1960’s when the female birth control pill was introduced, and turned out to be baseless.

We may be entering a new era of social responsibility, where birth control is no longer solely the woman’s problem, and can now be a burden shared jointly by couples.

Dr Chris Steele discusses with Sian Welby how to work out when you have the best chance of conception. First of course both you and your partner have to be fertile. Check that first. If so then the woman needs to work out when she is at her most fertile. This is 14 days BEFORE the start of her next period. Don’t worry, you can use our handy online fertility calculator to do this at www.thefamilygp.com You should try to conceive 2 days before this date, on this date and 2 days after it. This …
